Passage

November 2010
City: Taizhou (China)

Commissioned by the city of Taizhou (Zhejiang Province, China), Jan Timmer worked on a sculpture entitled "Passage". The statue will be placed in a newly designed park in the city. In no more than five weeks Jan, supported by two assistants, managed to make an impressive sculpture. Here are some pictures of the studio (in the open air) where the statues were made.

Commenting on the sculpture Jan Timmer said: "A passage is a room where one thing is left behind in favour of something else, where many thoughts pass, but little is said. Throughout the years too many ideas go through your head and go through so many many passages. It is a natural development that all humans experience."


Friends, the river and the bridge

City: Tangshan (China)

 During the International Urban Sculpture Symposium in Tangshan (China), Jan Timmer made a sculpture named "Friends: The River and the Bridge". The statue is 5 meters long and over 1.5 meters high and wide.

The Nanhu Tangshan (China) International Urban Sculpture Symposium was held in the Nanhu Park. The symposium theme was "Signs & Industrieal Modern Life", based on the characteristics of the city. Tangshan is an old industrial city and economic center of Hebei Province. The last ten years, during which the city developed rapidly, great efforts were made to promote cultural exchange.

Three sculptures in Urumqi

Some pictures of the genesis of the sculpture "Organic Movement", which Jan Timmer made in commission of the organisation.

During his stay in Urumqi, he made two other sculptures: "The power of spirit" and "Two sides", in addition to the one mentioned above.

Flexible

City: Shenzhen (China)

Flexible, Jan Timmer named this sculpture, pointing to the need for flexibility in contemporary society. The image was made during the 8th China Carving Art Festival and 'HanYu Cup' International Stone Carving Symposium that took place in Shenzhen (a major city in Guangdong Province in China) from April 28th to May 18th, 2007.

In addition, some pictures of the creation of the sculpture Flexible (2007, marble) and the visit of the Dutch consul general in China, Robert de Leeuw, and his wife.

City: Hui An (China)

Jan Timmer and his new scuylpture Written On, made of granite. The image calls the connection between the earliest characters on stone, scrolls and our dynamic time. The sculpture was made on invitation of the China Sculpture Platform, during the 4th China HuiAn International Carving Art Fair & International Stone and Wood Carving Symposium, from August 20 to September 3, 2006.

City: Zhengzhou (China)

In the context of the Cultural Year of Zhengzhou, the Renaissance & Rising exhibition was organized. The sculpture by Jan Timmer was purchased. He was also one of the 100 sculptors participating in the exhibition who received a prize.

Below is a short impression of the exhibition. After the opening speech by Anthony Stones, former chairman of the Society of Portrait Sculptors of England , a group photo was made with all sculptors and they also put their signature on the wall with the Zhengzhou Declaration of Sculptors. During their stay in Zhengzhou, the Longmen Caves (Henan Province) were also visited, a good moment for another group photo.

Endless River

The 13 meter long sculpture "Endless River" (Endless River) is located in Shanghai Sculpture Park. The park was built on the idea of ​​bringing people closer to nature and taste the taste of art. The park is divided into four seasons, which together form a large green area around a few lakes. Walking through here, over fifty very large sculptures of modern sculptors from around the world can be viewed.

Endless river was created in 2003 in Yuzi Paradise (Guilin, Yashan District, China) and placed in the Shanghai Sculpture Park, as part of the expansion of the city of Shanghai. On the pictures, an impression of the creation of the sculpture. The last photo shows the current location of the sculpture, in Shanghai.

Wind force

Location: Karel Doormanweg, corner Heemskerckstraat (Dordrecht, The Netherlands)

Sculpture  made by order of the province of Zuid Holland. The sculpture was the first prize in the context of the rural urban renewal contest in 1997. In 1998, the prize was awarded to the Krispijn district in Dordrecht. On the pictures, an impression of the creation of the sculpture.

Royal Landmacht monument Bronbeek

Place: Bronbeek Estate, Velperweg 147, 6824 MB, Arnhem, The Netherlands

In May 2001 a monument was taken into service in memory of the staff who died in active service of the Royal Army. The granite sculpture is in the shape of a torn circle. The circle symbolizes 'all-inclusive'. The crack refers to the relationship of life.

The sculpture was created in the context of the International Sculptor's Symposium in Bulgaria (August-September 1999). On the pictures an impression of the creation of the sculpture.
